FOR THE MAIL YOU KEEP

An old conversation.
A fresh perspective.

A Gmail backup. A message from years ago. A folder of things worth saving. Open your email files and archives directly, in a familiar Mac window.

Search messages, revisit attachments, and keep multiple archives within reach in the sidebar. Just open a file and start reading.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Your mail belongs
on your Mac.

Read the files you choose. Keep your mail, your attachments, and your archive on your device.

Local from the first click.

Your mail opens directly, without cloud uploads or an imported mail library.

Outside content stays outside.

Remote images and tracking content are blocked. Email scripts and embedded objects don’t run.

Every next step is yours.

Attachments wait for you to save them. Links inside messages offer copying, without opening another app.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Simply answered.

Which files can I open?

Open .eml/.mime/.emlx/.msg/.oft/.mbox/.mbx/.mbo files, Apple Mail mailbox folders, and Maildir folders. MBX files use the MBOX format.

For Outlook PST/OST/OLM archives, export to EML or MBOX first.

Does it replace my email app?

Cosmic Mail is a reader for local email and a deliberate way to handle email links. Keep using your existing email service for your inbox, syncing, and sending.

How do I catch email links?

Open Cosmic Mail → Settings ⌘, and choose Use Cosmic Mail for email links. It’s your choice: installing the app doesn’t change your default apps.

How do I install Cosmic Mail?

Download the universal app for Apple silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 14 or later. Follow the installation guide below for setup and first-launch approval.

Less friction.
More intention.

A little utility. A calmer Mac.

GETTING STARTED

Make yourself at home.

A simple setup.
Then, just open and read.

  1. Step 1

    Unzip and move.

Open the downloaded ZIP, then drag Cosmic Mail.app into Applications.

  2. Step 2

    Open Cosmic Mail.

Open the app from Applications. If macOS pauses the first launch, dismiss the notice and continue to the next step.

  3. Step 3

    Approve the first launch.

In System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security and click Open Anyway for Cosmic Mail. Authenticate if asked, then confirm Open.

A little help with the first launch

Open Anyway appears after you’ve tried opening the app. If it’s missing, open Cosmic Mail from Applications once more, then return to Privacy & Security. If the app opens normally, you can start reading right away.

Cosmic Mail is ad hoc signed and isn’t notarized by Apple. First-launch approval applies to this app only. Apple’s first-launch guidance

Make email links yours, too Optional
